This is a replica fossil, cast from the original fossil of the famous Megalosaurus jaw and teeth which was originally discovered by William Buckland in a quarry near Oxford in the UK.

Buckland wrote a paper on his find which described for the first time, a type of animal, we know now as Dinosaurs.

The find was named Megalosaurus meaning 'great lizard' however it wasn't until 20 years later Sir Richard Owen coined the name Dinosaur meaning 'terrible lizard'.

This replica measures 28.5cm X 13.5cm and is hand made and painted at our studios in a stunning weathered finish for authenticity. Includes black removable display base.

I first saw this jaw in a dinosaur documentary back in 1992, and that was where it all began for me. An actor was porforming William Buckland, dressed in 19th-century costume, grappling with his doubts: Just how big must this reptile have been? Since then, I’ve pursued that dream, hunting for fossils in all sorts of places, from more recent specimens to ones dating back to a time before dinosaurs even walked the earth. And today, July 13th, my birthday, this arrived: Buckland’s jaw, the first dinosaur, the very thing that started it all, the birth of a dream. Thanks
